What types of contract furniture can be ordered internationally? 

Nearly all types of contract furniture can be ordered internationally.

So, whether you want seating, tables, or other products like lockers or sofas, we can supply them to you no matter where you are located. 

With that out of the way, you may be wondering what the international supply of contract furniture involves, and how we go about getting it to you. 

We’ll cover exactly that in the next section. 

How much does buying contract furniture internationally cost? 

When it comes to ordering and delivering contract furniture with international shipping, we work on a price on application (POA) basis. 

This means that you’ll pay the same for the furniture as if you were buying in the UK; but we will calculate the fee for shipping the furniture to you as well.

This process involves us: 

  • Taking your order details, including the exact products (and how many of them you want).
  • Your location and which delivery option you want to use (we’ll cover delivery options in more detail later in this article). 

With this information, we are then able to calculate the amount you will need to pay. 

In calculating the price, we take into account things like the product’s weight and dimensions (as these influence the shipping costs), where you want the product delivered to, and customs clearance (however local duties and taxes are not covered – you will need to arrange payment of these yourself).

How do you ship contract furniture internationally? 

When it comes to receiving your contract furniture on an international basis, you have a number of delivery options available to you. 

Delivery to a shipping agent or depot

With our delivery at terminal service, we will transport your contract furniture, free of charge, to a shipping agent or freight forwarder. 

From there, it is up to you to arrange the shipping of the furniture. Many people choose this option as it gives them greater control and visibility over the shipping process. 

We do try and make this option as easy as possible for you though. We will provide you with all of the relevant information that shipping agents will ask for such as the weight, dimensions and volume of your chosen furniture.

We will also let you know how your contract furniture will be packaged. We do this on a case by case basis, as some pieces of furniture are palletised, whereas others are packaged in boxes.

Delivery to an in-country port

A particularly popular option for the shipping of contract furniture internationally, delivery to an in-country port involves us arranging for your order to arrive at a chosen port in your country. 

This delivery option includes the cost of shipping as well as any associated customs charges as part of a single price. This is often known as ‘delivery duty paid’ (DDP).

Note that depending on your country, the duties you pay can sometimes be a sizable percentage of the value of the furniture. For example, custom duties in Switzerland can be as much as 8%, with some countries in the Middle East levying custom duties of around 5%.

Delivery at place (DAP)

The third, and generally most expensive option, is known as ‘delivery at place’ (DAP). 

This is essentially door-to-door delivery. 

We arrange for your contract furniture to leave our warehouse, go to a UK port, be loaded onto a container ship, arrive at your port of choice, and then be transported to your premises. 

This shipping option covers applicable custom clearances, but you will still need to arrange payment of any local duties. 

Whilst this option is very convenient (it’s literally door to door!), we have found that it can be as much as three times more expensive than delivery to an in-country port.

How do you pay for contract furniture on an international basis? 

One of the questions we receive a lot from our international customers is how to make payment. 

Here at Rosehill, we keep international payments as simple as possible:

  • We always quote and invoice in GBP.
  • We provide the IBAN number that you need to make payment via bank transfer.
  • We do not charge you VAT if you are outside of the UK, but you may need to pay taxes locally (check your local tax regulations to see if this applies to you).
